The Ocean Foundation, in collaboration with a diverse collection of research institutions, government agencies and nonprofit organizations, is hosting a Conservation Science Symposium discussing the application of science to the conservation and management of natural resources throughout Northwest Mexico. Our goal is to promote the exchange of information and collaboration, as well as produce concrete results for long-term conservation in the region.

The Conservation Science Symposium will be held in Loreto, B.C.S., Mexico from the 24 to the 27 of May 2011. The event will be coordinated from the La Misión hotel, located along the malecon in the center of Loreto, and events will take place at Restaurants and Hotels throughout the center of town. All pre-meetings, symposium presentations, recommended lodging, and entertainment are conveniently located in the heart of Loreto, walking distance from each other and a 20 minute ride from the Loreto International Airport. The symposium layout and agenda has been specifically designed to maximize networking opportunities and encourage the exchange of ideas between all participants-scientists, governmental representatives and conservationists-working in Northwest Mexico.

Through a series of oral and poster presentations, panel discussions, and workshops we will explore marine and terrestrial issues, helping to define priorities for conservation throughout the region. The focus topics will include today's most pressing issues such as Fisheries and Community, Protected Areas and Biodiversity, Climate Change, Governance and Conservation, Water Quality and Quantity, and Community Involvement in Science and Conservation. Additionally, a number of subtopics will be explored, including species of concern, island habitats and more. Event presentations will be held in both English and Spanish and simultaneous translation will be provided.

Registration will be limited to 300 participants, so we recommend that you register early to ensure your place in the symposium.
